Roman Republican virtue is the antidote for Australian politics right now.

Honestly, the Australian Liberal Party are the gift that keeps on giving for a historian and writer such as me.

The parallels to the past dance in front of us like a command performance. Yet, still these ignoramuses only watch from their box seats.

The party is now a parody of itself.

Any members still remaining need to leave immediately.

Despite the Nationals breaking from their love-in with the Liberals (for my overseas readers, this party is our version of Conservatives) there remains this dancing on the periphery - will they? won’t they? will they? If the National Party wants to retain any sense of decency, they ought to reach out to One Nation (who are rising in the polls like a runaway train), and begin talks about forming some sort of coalition for the country’s sake, rather than their own.

A new right of centre party or amalgamation must be formed, and all egos left at the door.

Australia can be saved from this vile incarnation of tyranny but we don’t have much time.

A warning from history - if you do not, you will pay a hefty price and when your conscience is finally activated, it will be too late. When democracy has evolved into a perverted version of itself, it becomes a tyranny.

That is where Australia is right now - on the precipice.

We need a leader to carry the Holy Grail of Honour in creating a revived version of the best time in the life of the Roman Republic.

We need a return to virtues such as Honour, Discipline, Fortitude, and a revival of a love and desire for our own “mos maiorum.”
